Greg Holdaway

Biography

 

• Teaching since 1992 •

Greg trained at the Alexander Technique Associates Teacher Training Programme. He has run a private practise in Sydney NSW since graduating in December 1992 and has considerable teaching experience in a group contexts, as well as in private teaching. He currently works with Conservatoria of Music in NSW including the Mitchell Conservatorium the Orange Regional Conservatorium and the Goulburn Conservatorium in regional NSW. Over the years he has organised and run intensive workshops in the Alexander Technique for the general public, as well as special interest groups included Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Horse riders, Muscians, Dancers and Actors amongst others. He has designed VTAB accredited curricula for Alexander Technique in a performing arts context. Greg has also served the Australian professional teaching organisation AUSTAT as Treasurer, Chair and Council member and is a teaching member of Alexander Technique International.

• Assistant Director of AT Training Programme •

Greg has worked at the Alexander Technique Associates Teacher Training Programme since he graduated. He was Assistant Director from 1998 until the school closed in 2001. He is accredited as a teacher training director by AUSTATand anticipates further work in the field of training Alexander teachers in the future.

• Engaged in Govt Funded Research •

In conjunction with a small team of Somatic practitioners and Dance Lecturers, Greg was involved in developing Contemporary Dance Teaching Methodologies in a CUTSD (Australian Government funded) project. The project, called Somdance, ran for two years from February 1999 to December 2000, and culminated in a manual of procedures for dance educators. Further development of this work is anticipated with workshops and further publications planned. Greg currently works with pre-professional dancers at the Wesley Institute performing arts programme. • Former Professional Dancer •

Greg is a former professional dancer. He trained as a dancer at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in the eighties, and worked with the Tasmanian dance company Tasdance. He continued to teach dance during his Alexander training, and now works with performing artists of all kinds.
